1. For new equipment the manufacturer of the equipment should be able to advise on the cooling requirement and flow rates that their equipment needs.
2. For equipment currently in use, cooled by mains water, it is possible to calculate the cooling rate using the following calculation.
Cooling (kW) = Flow rate (litre/min) x dT (°C) / 14.4
Where dT = The rise in temperature between incoming and outgoing water.
3. If all else fails add up the total power consumption of the application (in kWatts) and estimate the efficiency of the process, ie how much energy (heat) needs to be taken away by the chiller.
